Justin slowly woke up and realized the phone was ringing. He swung his hand out, trying to find the hotel phone without opening his eyes. When he picked it up, he held the phone up to his ear and mumbled, "What?"

"Hi!" Chris yelled from the other end.

Justin opened his eyes as he winced and pulled the phone away. "What do you want?"

"Guess what?" Chris yelled.

"What?"

"It's Christmas!"

"I know. Goodnight," Justin mumbled, hanging up. He then tried to go back to sleep, snuggling deeper in the hotel bed.

A few minutes later, there was a knock on his door. "Hello!" a voice called, sounding like Mrs. Doubtfire.

"Go away Chris!" Justin yelled.

"How'd you know it was me?" Chris called back, sounding disappointed.

"Just a feeling," Justin mumbled. He might as well get up now; Chris obviously wasn't going to leave him alone. "I'm coming," he sighed.

Justin got out of bed and adjusted his boxers. He threw on a pair of jeans and a ribbed sweater, ran his fingers through his curly hair, then opened the door.

Chris was dressed completely in red and green, and had on his Santa hat. "Let's go!" he beamed.

Justin smiled as they walked to the elevator. Chris was so full of energy; he was practically ready to explode. He was sucking on a candy cane, and offered one to Justin. "No, that's okay," Justin refused.

Once they were in the elevator, Chris pushed the button to the third floor. "We gotta go to the fourth floor," Justin corrected, pushing that button.

"No, it was the third," Chris said, pushing it again.

"Maybe it was the second," Justin smiled mischief in his azure eyes.

Chris smiled too as he asked, "Ever wonder what the red button does?"

Justin laughed and said, "Do it."

Chris put his candy cane in his mouth and pushed all the buttons at once. Suddenly the elevator stopped, and a loud buzzer went off.

"What did you do?" Justin asked.

"Me?" Chris asked, looking like the little boy that broke his mother's favorite dish. Justin cracked up, then Chris asked, "Why aren't the doors opening?"

Justin noticed it too, and smiled, "I think we're stuck between floors."

"Oops," Chris said, backing into a corner.

"Now we gotta wait for them to fix it," Justin laughed, finding the situation hilarious. Chris cracked up too, crunching on his half gone candy cane.

Then a voice came over a speaker somewhere in the elevator. "Attention passengers, please remain calm. We have a team working to get you out now."

"I don’t think you should hit that button again," Justin laughed.

"I wonder…"Chris started, hitting the button again.

The elevator dropped three floors then slammed to a halt, knocking them to their knees.

"Are you done now?" Justin asked picking himself up.

"Yeah," Chris squeaked, rubbing his elbow. 'It was kinda fun though," he smiled, finishing his candy cane.

"How many of those did you have?" Justin asked.

"Six," Chris replied, sitting against a wall. Justin rolled his eyes as the voice came back over the speaker.

"Please don't push the buttons. We'll have you out shortly."

Chris flipped off the voice, holding his hand in the air.

"No thanks," the voice replied.

Chris and Justin looked at each other in confusion. Justin looked around, almost scarred. He waved, but there was no response.

A few minutes later, the doors opened, letting it's giggling passengers out. After the mechanics explained why the buttons were red and the importance of the saying, 'For emergency use only', the two young men headed down to see the others.

This time they took the stairs.

And from then on, they waved every time they got in an elevator, hoping to hear the voice.

But they never heard it again.
